There are many treatments available to women going through the menopause. The most common is HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). There are many types available, and a lot of them are trial and error to find the one that suits you. You will normally be started on a low dose, which may gradually increase until menopause symptoms are decreased. These can be in the form of Patches, tablets, implants & creams. Not all types of HRT will suit all women and it is important to work with your GP to find the most suitable form of treatment for your own particular circumstances. There are alternatives and supplements that can be taken during the menopause. vitamin and mineral supplementation particularly of vitamin C, B3, B6, zinc and magnesium, will help to maintain healthy hormone balances. Many women swear by Evening Primrose Oil in addition to their HRT. Eating well and regular exercise can also help. HRT does help prevent osteoporosis. On the downside, it may slightly increase your risk of breast or uterine cancers. Do not rush into any treatment. Ask first about all the risks, with or without HRT, and the risks of any alternatives, so you know all the facts before making a decision. |
