Hi everyone,
I'm Ali, new to the board, got my POF diagnosis a week ago. Fortunately its been a quick diagnosis, after having a spell of light bleeding betwen August and october last year followed by my periods stopping altogether.
My Doctor suspected early pregnancy and/or a missed miscarriage so had a to a coiple of pregnanyc tests which came back negative, she then thought it was an underactive thyroid so sent me for blood tests just before Christmas. The results were that my hormone levels were not normal so I had to go for a further blood test to find out exactly, then last week (a few days before my 30th Birthday, great timing!) I found out it was premature ovarian failure, my estrogen levels were really low so she advised me no chance of having any more children!
I'm very lucky in that I had my three beautiful little girls very close together, they are now 5, nearly 3 and nearly 2, and we'd already made the decision after my youngest was born that we weren't having any more but it was still a shock and I walked around in a daze for a few days afterwards.
I have to go for a further blood test in a few months then I will have to go on to HRT, which is the main thing worrying me as I know nothing about it, athough I'm hoping it will make the hot flushes more bearable as they're terrible at the moment! Lack of sleep and headaches are turning me into a weepy dragon with a short temper!
Any I've rambled enough!
Ali
